Sometimes he would hear a sweet voice, smell roses and perfume of a kind. Just like the one which came from the girl who was touching him now inside the bus. The same perfume. Who is this girl? Why is she so familiar with me? Questions and questions? He was slowly getting a head ache...... He sensed this beautiful girl, but could not remember. He tried hard, so hard that the world had started to spin... Flashes of his past began to hit him. A garden, the beach, a few giggles, two of them holding their hands..... I t was too much work for Vinayak, that he fainted on Suchitra's shoulders.
"Vinay! Vinay! Suchitra screamed. A few passengers, helped Suchi carry him out of the bus, and escorted her to the nearest hospital. Suchitra searched his bag that he carried, for his number. Vinayaks family had moved from the old house after his accident and she was totally
unaware of what was going on. It had been more than a year and the bubbly Suchi was no more bubbly and there was a deep sadness in her eyes. She asked the receptonist to call up Mrs and Mr.Sabesh Krishna, his parents. She waited for an hour and when the doctor said Vinay was OK but was sleeping, she decided to go. With a heavy heart she walked down to the entrance and as she stepped out, she came in face to face again with Mrs and Mr. Sabesh Krishna. The three of them looked at each other shocked and Suchi walked away to catch a taxi.
"What is she doing here?", asked Mrs. Krishna.
Suchitra hired a taxi and moved toward her parents house. She was so upset to see Vinay in this condition that she decided to took off from her work. On the way she informed her boss Mr. Moudgil about her inability to come for work. Mr. Moudgil a fifty plus gentleman assured her to no worry about work and take care of her. Then she dialed another number, on hearing his voice she tried to make her voice pleasant, “Manu..As I reached here, I felt severe headache, so I am not going for work today..I am going to see mumma”.
“Take care” two simple words from Manu spoke of his personality. He was a different kind of man. Sincere, sober and very calm person and romantic ..all the qualities he has of which any wife will be proud of. She too loved Manu a lot. Though her marriage was a forced one by circumstances created by Vinay’s parents, still she managed to come out of the shadow of memories of her love. Manu’s approach has helped her in this move. She remembers the day when she first informed Manu about her past, Manu was calm as usual “Suchi..I have a past too..let us forget our past..just live in present”.The drive to her mother's place was a long one and Suchi wanted to have a nap. She closed her eyes, not to sleep, but only to remember her long dead past. Suchi and Vinay had been great friends right form their childhood. Being neighbours both the families enjoyed each other's companies. Mr and Mrs. Mehra (Suchi's Parents) were a great couple who believed in love, compassion and trust. On the other hand , Mrs and Mr. Krishna, were also a wonderful couple, but Mrs. Krishna was a strict disciplinarian and a staunch orthodox.
THE GOLDEN HOMES COLONY
This was a colony where about a 50 families lived a beautiful life. The colony was built in such a way that it had a wonderful elementary school, a high school , a nice little hospital ,a lovely park for thekids to play and ofcourse a shopping complex wherein all basic necessities could be purchased. A Paradise on Earth! one can say.Suchi and Vinay had spent their childhood there . They went to the same school, the same class. They ate their lunches together. The did their Home-Works together. They played in the park together!
Vinay being a boy, always loved to play gimmicks and scare Suchi. For instance, the kids always used to meet at the parks at around 5pm . On this Tuesday, Vinay had not come and Suchi waited and waited was concerned and bored. She went to the Krishnas..
"Aunty, Is Vinay there?", she spoke softly.
"What a question!" Mrs Krishna replied in an angry voice.,
"Errr.. sorry, I mean is he there at home?" ,she asked.
"Yeah,go into his room you silly girl.."Mrs Krishna said.
Suchi walked slowly. She went in to the room, to see the room dark. Pitch dark and no sign of Vinay. "Vinay, Vinay, you there?" asked Suchi in a scared voice.
"Boo! Baa! hahaha" howled Vinay and pounced at her and pushed her to the ground.
"Awwwww yelled Suchi " and she had broken into tears . She was shaking miserably and crying really bad. Vinay could not control his laughter and put on the lights. He held her tender hands and tried to console. In a few minutes all was good and both of them resumed playing.
Such was the tricks Vinay played and Suchi was smiling and gave a soft giggle in the taxi.
"Are you OK madam?", asked the taxi driver.
Suchi was in her own world , in Golden Homes Colony.
